These adorable chikuwa rolls wrapped with cheese, nori, and ham are perfect for bento boxes! Cheese acts as the glue to hold everything together as you roll them up - so cute!
Ingredients
2 servings- Sliced ham1 slice
- Chikuwa (fish cake)4 pieces
- Nori (seaweed)1 sheet, cut to the same size as the cheese
- ★Sliced cheese (non-melting type)2 slices
Directions
25 min- 1
Cut each of the 4 chikuwa pieces lengthwise with kitchen scissors and unfold into a flat sheet. Cut the 2 slices of cheese in half.
- 2
Cut the nori to the same size as the cheese. Place the unfolded chikuwa on plastic wrap, then layer cheese and nori on top in that order.
- 3
Twist the ends of the plastic wrap to secure, then microwave at 500W for 15-20 seconds to slightly melt the cheese.
- 4
After heating, chill in the freezer for about 10 minutes to set the cheese. The refrigerator works too.
- 5
Once cooled completely, cut the roll in half.
- 6
Cut 1 slice of ham in half, then layer on plastic wrap in the order: chikuwa, cheese, ham. Roll the same way.
- 7
For a neat appearance, roll so that the brown roasted marks on the chikuwa are visible on the outside.
Tips
Wrap the plastic wrap tightly around the roll. Since the cheese acts as an adhesive, avoid overheating. Make sure to cool completely before cutting for clean, well-sealed slices. Always use non-melting type sliced cheese.
