Fragrant Butter-Sautéed New Onion Steak

Sweet new onions coated in a rich garlic butter soy sauce glaze — this steak-style dish looks and tastes absolutely amazing! ♪

  • New onion (or regular onion)1–2
  • Butter2 tbsp
  • Green onion (scallion)optional
  • ★Garlic1 clove
  • ★Soy sauce1 tbsp
  • ★Mirin1 tbsp
  • ★Sake1 tbsp
  • ★Water1 tbsp
  • ★Sugara pinch

    Cut 1–2 new onions into rounds about 1 cm thick.

    Mince 1 clove of garlic and combine with the ★ seasonings. Set aside.

    Melt 2 tbsp of butter in a frying pan over medium heat.

    Add the onion rounds and cook, gently shaking the pan. Avoid touching the onions directly to keep them from falling apart.

    Once the bottom side is golden brown, flip carefully and cook the other side in the same way.

    Once both sides are nicely browned, add the ★ seasoning mixture and reduce, coating the onions evenly.

    Plate and top with green onion (scallion) if desired.

    Serve with the sauce fully glazed over the onions.

Tips

Start searing from the smaller flat edge of the onion rounds to help them hold their shape. Keep the heat at medium throughout — avoid overcooking for the best results.
