    Thinly slice 1 spring onion (or regular onion) and add 1 tbsp sugar. Gently massage with your hands until the sharp bite mellows out.

    Rinse the massaged onion under water and squeeze out excess moisture thoroughly with paper towels.

    Cut 1 tomato into bite-sized pieces.

    Make the marinade dressing: Whisk together 2 tbsp vinegar, 1 tbsp sugar, a pinch of salt, and black pepper to taste until the sugar dissolves.
