Directions

5 min
  1. 1

Add the ★ dry ingredients (3 tbsp all-purpose flour, 3 tbsp sugar, 1/2 tsp baking powder) into a mug. If you're using any powdered toppings like cocoa, mix them in at this stage.

  2. 2

Mix thoroughly until there are no lumps of sugar or flour remaining.

  3. 3

Add 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil and 1 egg, then stir carefully until the batter is completely smooth with no lumps.

  4. 4

Add any optional toppings (such as chocolate chips or jam) and adjust the amount so the batter fills no more than 1/3 of the mug. Lightly tap the bottom of the mug on the counter to release any air bubbles before microwaving.

  5. 5

    Microwave at 500W for 2 minutes. Adjust the time based on your microwave's wattage: 600W → 2 minutes, 800W → 1 min 20–40 sec, 900W → 1 min 20 sec, 1300W → 1 min 5 sec.

  6. 6

When the surface starts to look glossy, the cake is done. Be careful not to overcook it, as it will become tough.

  7. 7

Enjoy it right away while it's still warm for the fluffiest texture!

Tips

Adjust the ingredient amounts to match the size of your mug for more consistent results. Also, it's best to keep the amount of toppings small.
