This easy apple pie is made with frozen puff pastry and a microwave — how cool is that?! The flaky crust with cinnamon apples is absolutely irresistible♪
Ingredients
4 servings- Frozen puff pastry sheets (pack of 4)2 sheets
- Apple2
- ★Sugarabout 80g
- ★Lemon juicea pinch
- ★Cinnamon sugarto taste
- Egg yolk 〈for brushing〉to taste
Directions
45 min- 1
Quarter the 2 apples, remove the skin and core, then cut them into thick ginkgo-shaped slices.
- 2
Place the apple slices in a microwave-safe bowl, sprinkle about 80g of sugar over the top, and add a small amount of lemon juice. Microwave at 600W for about 4 minutes, stirring once halfway through.
- 3
After heating, transfer the apples to a colander and discard the excess liquid (this liquid can be reused as apple tea).
- 4
Add cinnamon sugar to taste to the apples and let them cool to room temperature.
- 5
Use the frozen puff pastry sheets while they are still half-thawed. Cut 1 sheet into 2 pieces vertically and 2 pieces horizontally, making the horizontal cuts slightly different in size.
- 6
Make alternating slits in the smaller pastry pieces (a pastry cutter tool will give you a cleaner finish). Once the slits are made, gently stretch them open.
- 7
Place the cooked apple filling onto the larger pastry pieces, brush the surface with egg yolk, and bake in an oven preheated to 200°C for about 20 minutes.
- 8
Once baked, they are ready to serve. Any leftover cooked apple filling can be stored in a freezer bag with the air removed.
Tips
Use the frozen puff pastry sheets while they are still half-thawed. Over-thawing will make them difficult to work with. Stir the apples once while microwaving for even cooking, and draining the excess liquid through a colander ensures a crispy, flaky finish.
