Fluffy and Creamy Microwave Onsen Egg

You can make a perfect onsen egg in the microwave! It's so easy and great as a topping or eaten on its own. Try it!

  • Water2 tbsp or more
  • ★Mentsuyu (noodle sauce)a pinch

    Prepare a microwave-safe narrow-mouthed bowl or teacup and crack 1 egg into it.

    Add 2 tbsp or more of water so the entire egg is covered.

    Using chopsticks, poke a hole through the yolk to prevent it from bursting.

    Microwave at 500W without covering for 40 seconds to 1 minute.

    Drain the excess water and it's done. Drizzle with ★ mentsuyu if desired and enjoy.

    ※Caution: Microwaving eggs can cause them to burst. Watch carefully while heating.

Tips

Heating time varies depending on microwave wattage and egg size. If this is your first time, start with about 50 seconds to be safe. Using more water reduces the risk of the egg bursting.
