Luxurious French Toast Made with Bread Crusts

These rolled French toasts made from bread crusts are so cute and yummy — they look just like little Baumkuchen! 🍞✨

Ingredients

  • Bread crusts (from 8-slice bread)about 16 pieces
  • Milk100 ml
  • Egg (medium)1

  • Vanilla extracta pinch

    Butter a flat-bottomed heatproof dish (not measured). Arrange about 16 bread crusts in the dish from the outside toward the center.

    In a bowl, mix together 100 ml milk, 1 medium egg, 2 tbsp sugar, and a pinch of vanilla extract. Pour the egg mixture over the bread crusts.

    Once the bread crusts have absorbed the egg mixture, heat in a 600W microwave for about 2 minutes 30 seconds.

    Remove from the heatproof dish and heat a small amount of oil (not measured) in a frying pan. Fry the bread crusts on both sides until golden brown.

    Sprinkle with powdered sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon powder, and other toppings to taste, and serve.

Tips

For extra flavor, use butter instead of oil for frying. Since the inside is already cooked through, just brown the outside. You can dress it up with whipped cream, jam, fresh fruit, or other toppings as you like.
